I am sitting at the keyboard meditating on a dream I have had in the last few hours. It was a long dream but the salient points are below:
I was involved in a home situation where there was a constant battle, and we had to continually fight to keep moving forward. Eventually I knew we had to get fresh revelation to overcome, and we discovered that there had been a curse planted in the wall of the house.
No sooner than we were getting some breakthroughs at that level, I became aware that there was a large demonic army assembling. I went outside to view them, and they were coming from all directions, and by all means. I heard the words ‘this is the last battle’. Then into the midst of this demonic assembly came a king and his complete entourage. They arrived as one, but they were like a 3-D huge sculpture – I was not convinced they were actually alive. They were from history.
I rebuked some of what was going on: with the words ‘you are coming down’, and this severely weakened them. But I knew this would not be enough.
I thought I would fly (like a bird) out over the army, but suddenly realised that I had never flown before and now was not a good time to try.
I then knew that we had a strategy:
Get everyone together, we are going to wash each other’s feet, we are giong to break bread. They will never be able to overcome us then. There will be casualties, but if we do this we will overcome.
I think the interpretation is clear – but there might be parts you wish to add or there might be personal aspects to it.
First, we live with what is called an eschatological tension – will we see everything take place this side of the return of Jesus? No. Will there be a new heavens and new earth before his coming? No. Will there be a final last battle?
However, I do see it speaking at this time about a shift coming and one we have to be prepared for.
- Currently the battle is being faced by many at the personal level – the level of the home, the level of the body of Christ. We are surviving but now need fresh revelation, for this opposition to what we are pushing for and it is in the walls (the fabric) of our homes. It comes from the past, even previous occupants – so we expect some fresh levels of deliverance to come through revelation in this next season.
- Beyond that though there is the gathering of major forces against us. There is a stepping up in the level of warfare. There are and will be some casualties in this – but they are not casualties because of their personal weakness – the Lord works this all together.
- I probably should have been able to fly (speaking of spiritual experience / going to the heights etc.) but I was unable to do that – and I simply had to come to terms with this was not a good time to do that. I cannot make up for lost time – it is not a time for regret. Are we where we should be – no… but the time is now, and God is with us now.
- The strategy to overcome is within our grasp. It is the service of one another, the expression of the one loaf and wine that will enable us to overcome. I remember in the dream those who I was with saying – but there are not enough of us, and I replied but if we do this then others will come. We have to express this humility, openness and acceptance of the one body. We must not divide and only seek our own welfare.
- And finally – part of what is arrayed against us is myth. The king and entourage were not fully alive. They came out of history and were mythological characters. Lies will always be part of the strategy of the enemy. Even lies that we are not far enough forward, we have not had the right spiritual experience. Our weapons are mighty – but simple.
Hope you have some good dreams….

Martin, Thanks for this – really appreciate you sharing it and your insights
Watching The Two Towers with two of my children last night led me to contemplate the whole battle of good and evil and myth of redemptive violence.
I’m sure God was whispering in my ear about love, sacrifice, the letting go of power, unity, the bread and wine of the shared meal.
Then I checked out this blog this morning, which seemed to confirm what Jesus was saying to me.
Watching The Two Towers with two of my children last night left me considering any cross-over to ‘real-life’. What does the stand against evil actually look like? (Not quite the physical battle of Helm’s Deep, I’ll wager).
I’m sure God was whispering in my ear about was musing over warfare, sacrifice, love, letting go of power, and so on. I am convinced intercession must go hand in hand with unity, love, the bread and the wine of the shared meal.
Checking out your blog this morning confirmed to me that the whispers were indeed God and that I ought to listen more.
My computer loves the ‘make him think it is completely lost so that he’ll write it again before re-presenting the original comment’ game.
praying . . .
Had a dream too early this morning (about 3:30 am). Some similarities, but need to contemplate it more . . . will share later via e-mail with you.

While reading,”home situation” I was thinking home as in not traveling, or pertaining to a situation where one lives. This summer I visited churches in California and the common question is “Where is your “home” church?”. My mind went to the walls of the buildings in which we(many) worship on sunday mornings. “Washing of the feet and breaking of the bread” to me speaks of unconditional love and intamcy…Come on new revalation and deliverance. Let us rejoice over intamacy one with another, which will overcome!
Hi Martin
Your dream was really interesting to me in light of where we are in the walk around our county. Having reached our summer objective this week and praying together as a team, we were aware that as we have come to ‘the end of the beginning’, something different will occur in the spirit realm in relation to our next section. (By different, I mean perhaps an increase in the battle for the territory.)
This was confirmed early this morning by someone blind-texting me Jeremiah 1.19 ‘”They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you” declares the Lord’ which she had been praying for us, followed by someone else unknowingly reading aloud the words “We are called to be unobtrusive disciples, not heroes” when we broke bread together this morning.
We cannot fly (‘be heroes’) but we can serve one another in the day to day and mile on mile.

I think for many christians the home is a substantial place of battle for many different kinds of reasons. Mismatched marriages, ill health, emotional legacies, unbelieving family members (older or younger) and all the struggles that come out of that. Protecting the borders of your home from everything evil from loan sharks, television, etc etc. There are real pressures from outside the walls such as unreasonable demands from the work place, unjust legislation and administration, historical ties such as more distant relatives and friends (whether believing, nonbelieving, healthy, sick etc). For many there is also the pressure of persecution. Yes we need fellow believers to pray and declare Jesus is Lord because of the victory of the cross when the struggle seems overwhelming.
thanks for this-something to really think about.
Remarkable dream, Martin. It’s certainly true that many Christian couples we know, in active ministry, are experiencing considerable stress because of family situations (and how often have I wished I could simply take wing and fly away from our own situations!). God seems to be confirming through the dream that this is one of the main strategies that the enemy is using against God’s people at the moment. I actually take encouragement from this, because it means we personally are part of a much larger picture.
It’s interesting that many churches today are taking their congregations through courses such as “Freedom in Christ”, which involves, amongst many other things, freeing ourselves from the curses planted in our generational lines (the walls of our house). The dream seems to indicate that these courses will have most effect when conducted in a church which is united, and having close fellowship together.
God wants us whole in every way, individually and together as the body of Christ. It’s the only way we shall stand in the days ahead. The enemy seeks to destroy us through our family lines. Whether we like militaristic language or not, we are certainly in a battle. We can’t escape this constant message in Scripture. We’re in the army of the King of Kings, fighting for the spread of His Kingdom on this earth – the significant difference between our warfare and that of the world lies in the weapons we use!
