Pagan trees?

Loved Paul’s blog (and Malc’s status he refers to) about the Christmas tree. Also very interesting because Gayle had not read the blog, and said to me on Christmas eve that she did not want to put up the Christmas tree here (we do have one and it is all of 10 inches high!!) as the mixing of paganism in this region is so heavy and insidious.

WOW. Gayle in conflict with the Christian world!

However, it is such a point. When is something neutral, when is it to be redeemed and when is it to be avoided at all costs?

So those with Christmas trees – enjoy the season.

Funny, the offense of the xmas tree, has nothing to do with whether or not it is Christian. I don’t care really. There is a large plastic thing right now in our living room. No I did not put it there. What offends me about this pseudo tree is that it was likely made in China by enslaved or semi-enslaved workers, created out of fossil fuels, and shipped using fossil fuels. This completely non essential item, that is hauled out for a maximum of 2 weeks of the year was costly to the environment and to those Chinese workers. That turns it into an obscenity for me. Better a small potted one, raised locally, available locally. Then the city takes it and turns it into mulch that we can put on our gardens. At least such a tree (no matter what it symbolizes religiously) contributes to the real life cycle of the planet and where I live, likely means that the workers were paid at least minimum wage.

That’s my problem with it. The Xmas tree we have today is a dead (not living at all) reminder of the global religion of consumption at the cost of the environment and social justice. c.
