I have been very interested in Iceland and how it will navigate its future partly as I had a waking vision of ice covering Europe and then a few weeks later the volcanic ash covered Europe from Iceland.
I saw Europe – stretching into Russia, covering also the southern states down to the Black Sea, and from the north to the south – under a blanket of ice. To state the obvious, frozen in time, little movement. However this was beginning to melt. I am full of hope for these lands. (I think anyone called to live somewhere must have hope.) April 10, 2011
Mr Haarde, the ex-PM of Iceland is thought to be the first world leader to face criminal charges over the financial crisis. He has been found guilty on one charge and acquitted on the others, but will not be punished. I personally think this is awesome. I have been wanting some public accountability in these situations where those with authority have so mismanaged finances (and of course I cannot say if this is true in this situation or not)… then my hope has been that there would be an acquittal on the basis that ‘we too have sinned…’ Decisions have been made but we have all participated in the greed.
Anyway of interest as I hope / think Iceland could become a sign for some new economic shapes. Just a thought and a hope.
This resonates with a prophetic message a friend, Klaus, had first half of 2000 in Berlin. He was pointed to a childrens’ book with a picture of a frozen lake, children were feeding ducks. The words to go with this image (somewhat incoherent) went like this, ‘In Winter the lake freezes over and the ducks find it hard to find anything to eat at all.’ Klaus then worked as a prophet (apostle?) and evangelist among h0meless and drug addicts who he challenged and anointed to following Jesus in radical ways, wherever that leads, and the Church to embrace a form of existence that does not conform to middle-class pattern and standards. (I sadly lost sight of him, and it may be worthwhile to pray for his restoration and for blessing for his family.)
Only recently, there have been different prophetic words and pictures that indicate ice melting and the end of winter. Be aware of what will be coming from Germany in the coming months!
It should be happening here in Britain too, at least in parts of it, and surely here in Bolton, but I am not equally assured whether this more radical pattern of building the Kingdom by sowing, dying, being resurrected has been received the same way it was these twelve, thirteen years ago in Germany. But then it has been in the land here from more ancient times… How long will it take to recover?
Interesting! I get a sense the ice is something to due with the following: the unwillingness of people to hearing the truth about Jesus, ice inhibiting growth and life, winter being the season where living things hibernate and stay hidden. When the ice melts it is the first sign of winter becoming spring, after which the hidden life comes out into the open, and food becomes freely available.
I wonder if something will happen that will cause the hearts of many in Europe to start to come alive? Maybe the ice has something to do with the old and discredited economic system of ever-growing debt that looks like it will have to end and be replaced by something better? Perhaps soon is the time for the broader church to come out of hibernation, and the hidden life to be revealed?
Whatever happens, I think we all need to focus on proclaiming widely the truth about Jesus and our need for Him. His love, mercy and grace, and the need for repentance and faith. the more I see of this crazy, fallen world the more I realise how Jesus and the Kingdom of Heaven are the only answers. The politicians and financiers will never bring us life or hope.
