Revelation #5

In this video I take a look at some of the numerical structure that undergirds the book. There are obvious ‘sevens’: seals, trumpets, thunders, bowls; less obvious ones: beatitudes, for example; and some lovely intriguing combinations such as ‘Jesus’ mentioned 14 times as is the term ‘Spirit’. The two by way of contrast that has always been a symbol of the message of the book is ‘Lamb’ and the list of cargoes headed for Rome (both come up at 28 times). The Lamb’s life is given totally (7) for the whole world (4), whereas the Imperial draw is to take everything from the whole world.

  1. Oh Martin: I love when you do these video series. As I no longer can attend church, I use them as my sermon for the day. So Sunday evening is here – time to relax from the garden and other work and see what you have to say. Umm, numbers. I’ve never been into that kind of analysis as I don’t know what to make of it. It starts to get all Da Vinci code-ish and makes me uncomfortable. But okay, I’ll ride along with you on this one, certainly the numbers and combinations you pull out appear to have significance. Keep on, I eagerly await the rest of it. c.

    • Hey me da Vinci code-ish. Must put that on my resume!!! Just for the record though… I think there are structures in the book not to uncover some conspiracy theory but simply to underline that the kingdom and the empire are in a clash of cultures big time. One has a flow of life to the least and the lowest, the other sucks life from the least and the lowest.

I also note I have arrived if I am being watched as an alternative to sermons. Does that make me a potential TV evangelist. So if I carry on – you will receive an email or 10 suggesting how you can invest in me (don’t say I didn’t warn you, Cheryl).

      • Wow, a combo Da-Vinci code thinker and a TV evangelist all in one. That has to be a winning (read money-making) combination. I look forward to the book series. c.
