I have been in Germany with people I have tried to journey with over the past few years. Not an easy scanario for them but I admire, and am very supportive of, their commitment to their town (it is in the former DDR, so the mentality in the town is very suppressed). I also believe though that – along with many others – they represent something of a new movement in the land. Non-religious, non-Imperial. Perhaps next year we might be able with them to make a sound in the land for something new. Tomorrow I am off to various settings in the Black Country until Sunday.

I received an email a few days ago from a family I knew a few years ago. I quote from it here not to prove a point one way or another. Simply to illustrate that Christians as ‘being people of the way’ is alive and well. We are all being challenged to walk with people coming to faith where we help them find a way that is both appropriate to them and authentic to the NT. As we read: “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” Here is an extraction from the email….
I have looked at my schedule, convinced that there must be at least a couple of things in the diary that I have said ‘yes’ to that I should have said ‘no’ to. But… not these places. Each place had great value.

I am in the Midlands this week: Burton yesterday, Stoke on Trent today and for three days, then two days in Chester (well that is the north, unless I revert back to my childhood perspective when anything south of Inverness was the deep south!).
Sally Ann has been developing many aspects of pryaer and prohetic ministry with a focus on national intercession and healing. She has led an event called Mercy Cry on a number of occasions, and although this report is long, it is very insighful and well worth reading.
Mercy Cry 4 Saturday 13th October 2007
Mercy Cry is a journey and this is an attempt to document that journey and how it was expressed at our 4th annual gathering in Loughborough. The way the Holy Spirit weaves together the threads that I have carried over the past 12 months and the recurring themes He has given us in prayer never ceases to amaze me – along with an immense gratitude for those who travel to this small town in the heart of the nation to bring their part into the mix and all those who have been with me on the adventure so far.
Travelling home is always great, and I write these notes having just cleared passport control here in Rio de Janeiro.
How do I summarise four intense weeks? There is so much that happens in four weeks and so much I could write.
I had an email through this morning from the crazy walker, Mr Lowton….. Just read this – maybe some need to connect with this – if not just be blessed. BTW: Steve has just edited a book of stories of those who are wandering under the hand of the Lord. I will obtain copies soon and make them availaible. Very moving and inspiring. I will write later today on my travels out of Brazil (am currently in Rio de Janeiro airport).
Four Day Holy Spirit Party!

Ok so far we have about three households (kids and all) and a whole bunch of others who are wanting to walk from Cardiff thro to Llanelli between Christmas and New Year.
This is a late report as I have not had adequate internet connection for the past week. Before making the comments on Rio…. I am now in Brasilia which has been the source of the problems over my passport. It will be a long story to tell, and this afternoon I plan a visit to the British embassy and also to change my flight home from being out of Brasilia to flying out of Rio. I have been advised that will be much safer for me… So to comments on Rio de Janeiro:
Belem: Oct 31-Nov 3….. This city of 2 million in the north of the country was the entry point to Pentecostalism in 1911. The rest, we can say, is history. Pentecostalism in all its various forms has spread throughout the nation, and for example some 20% of Belem today would be evangelical and mianly Pentecosatal / Charismatic.
Much of the material that will be central to these posts will cover perspectives on the 'gates' of society, the places of influence that shape the culture. If transformation is a desired outcome, such aspects as strategic prayer and understanding the redemptive gifts of places will play their part. As prayer opens up space, filling it will be vital, not in a controlling, top-down sense, but with a servant spirit. Finding appropriate terminology is difficult. Maybe 'transformation' is not the right term, perhaps 'transfiguration', where inner qualities burst through.
