A little ad….

Developing themes with WordPress is very satisfying. Of course one can find very good themes and use them ‘out of the box’, but to make something that is very personal, tailored to one’s own style is more satisfying. There is a full-blown course below using the Thematic framework theme, but I have also developed a new, shorter course.

New Course: Great value, developing a WP themeThis new course I have developed is based on the starter theme ToolBox. (It can act as a a follow on course to the larger thematic-based online one and can be accessed by anyone who who has completed that course – an extra freebie!!) It is also ideal for anyone who has some knowledge of html and css (and by that I only mean some). If so this course will be absolutely right for you. Also if you have a current site that you have developed and wish to move a site to WP and develop your own theme, this is the course for you.

The best part about it?

You will work with a very strong html5 theme and the course itself is a snip at: £40.00 / 45,00€. (Many premium themes themselves cost that or more.)

Here is a short video about this course:

Or maybe the fuller course will be better suited to you? Keep on reading to see what the thematic-based course offers:

Alongside various travels, writing and recording work I offer web-site design in various ways. From designing a site, to revamping, to training in design. So a few explanations:

Why wordpress?

Many web-sites use wordpress as the backbone of what they deliver (around 12% of the web does just this). It is very stable and well maintained. There are numerous forums and tutorials that can be found whenever a problem is encountered. And from a designer’s perspective it is highly customisable. A site developed in WP will give you the flexibility you need. However, I want to draw your attention to the course that I offer. It can be delivered in a number of ways, the two main ways being as part of a small group, or online. First an outline of the course:

Small Group Course:

Day 1 begins with a wordpress installation, and to learn how to change the appearance of it through making changes to the stylesheet. By the end of the first morning you will have a new header image in place, have changed the font being used, the width of your columns: you will have begun to make the site look personal to you.

In the second day you will add to your site with pages and posts, and learn how to customise the comments that people will be ever-so-motivated to make on your site.

Day three will be an exploration of the diversity of plugins that are available and how to add a function to your site.

By the time the course is completed you will have a site ready to be expanded, and should you choose it could be uploaded to the web at an address of your choice.

Notes for the teaching together with web locations where further help can be found will be provided.

[The above is an outline, it can be shaped according to the individual's level.]

Cost: £270.00 / €300,00.
I can offer a reduced rate if 2 or more sign in together for this course.

Individual tuition wanted? I can also tailor the course above for a one-to-one tutorial, or adapt it to give a step by step guide for the development and maintenance of your own site to whatever level is required.

If looking to participate in this course:

  • It will be necessary to come with a laptop computer with wi-fi capabilities, and preferably with either Firefox or Google Chrome web browsers installed (not necessary, but there are helpful tools on both those browsers).
  • You would be responsible for your own accommodation and any transport that is necessary.
  • If interested please fill in the form on the next page. This will not commit you to attending, but will help in assessing when to run a course and at what level.

Online course:

The course is also available online. In 13 lessons with extensive notes and almost 3 hours of video this is a very effective ‘at your own pace’ way of doing the course. There is also access to page of tutorials that look at various aspects of developing a site further, that is added to on a regular basis.

The cost for this online course is: £180.00 / 220,00€.

I also offer reductions if signing up with another person. Each person then pays: £160.00 / 200,00€.

Also if you have previously purchased the Toolbox course – the cost of that will be taken off the Thematic-baased course cost.
